On Sat, May 30, the California Interscholastic Federation held its remaining baseball championship games in the Southern Section of the state’s main school sports league. Some of the games took place at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, Calif, and in the late afternoon window of the scheduled games, the Brentwood Eagles faced the Covina Colts in the Division 6 title game of the CIF-SS. Both schools had made it through four separate rounds to make the championship game in the sixth division of the CIF-SS high school baseball league.
Covina was the designated home team with a record of 15-13-1 while Brentwood was the visiting team with a 19-7-1 mark for the season. After both teams were introduced and the national anthem was played, the game started at around 4:40 p.m. local time.

Both teams didn’t produce any offensive action in the first inning, but in the bottom of the second, the Eagles had a little bit of a hard time seeing the ball with the bright sun shining in their faces. Covina got two runners on base due to dropped baseballs and visibility struggles. Brentwood’s head coach, Myles Babitt, came out to visit with the starting pitcher Hayden Prince, who only surrendered one run in the bottom of the second on another ball that dropped in front of left fielder Michael Ba.

In the top of the third, the Eagles responded as they scored three runs on a rally with hits from the top of their batting order, including a two-run triple by center fielder Hudson Chase. They added two more runs in the top of the fourth on a fielding error in the infield from Covina and that would be more than enough runs for Brentwood in this title game.

The starting pitcher King had a solid outing with plenty of key strikeouts and groundouts. Later in the game, Eagles third baseman Jack Kaplan was brought onto the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning and he got the Eagles out of a runners on first and second base jam in that inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Kaplan closed out the game as the Brentwood Eagles had won the 2026 Division 6 CIF title game by a final score of 5-1.
The Eagles players celebrated on the field with their coaches and took part in a trophy presentation held near the home plate area of Goodwin Field. The players’ families were very happy as they watched the game and entire ceremony from the first base side stands of the ballpark.

Despite the long distance between their school’s campus and Fullerton, the Brentwood high school baseball team made the trip worth it with a championship victory that they will never forget and cherish for the rest of their lives as this 2026 team was the first one to win a CIF baseball title in school history.
